The costume is OK, though I’d recommend wearing your own black pants and boots if you have them. We’re doing a Star Trek themed group costume for Halloween and I’m buying costumes early (on sale).
The mask is a disapointment. The picture on the package shows the mask with thick long straight hair. The actual “hair” is barely shoulder length, tangled and sparse. So sparse that it doesn’t begin to cover your neck. This means, 1) unless your hair is brown/black you’ll have to take great pains to hide it (or color it) when you wear the mask, and 2) if you don’t have very dark brown skin you’ll also need to color the back of your neck as it will easily show through.
Your face will need to be dark brown also, to blend with the mask. The mask has this ridiculous nose piece attached which is just too silly for words. I’m cutting it off so the mask will effectively be a half-mask, coming just over my eyebrows.
Also, for some reason, the forehead part of the mask (the appropriate bumps of a Klingon forehead) has bright green highlights, as if the Klingon has moss growing on it. I don’t know where that came from.
This costume is the “deluxe” version of the costume, which means the chestpiece is a little more substantial. You can’t really tell from the photo, but the arms are black fur. Overall, it has a nice look to it, except that the belt doesn’t have a buckle, it ties in the back like a sash. This is an odd look for a Klingon! I may cut out the “silver” buckle on the sash and glue it on to a real black belt for a better look.
I’m keeping the costume, because I need it and it’s the only non-Enterprise personnel costume I’ve found. The quality is average for the price (I’ve bought a lot of costumes over the years), which means it needs a little tinkering, which I’m willing to do.
However, it gets only three stars because there’s no excuse for the cruddy “hair”.
